In 2021, we moved from Palmerston North - about 35 km inland - to Hawera, just 5 km from the sea.

That’s when everything changed.

In Palmerston North, rust was never an issue.

In Hawera, mild steel started rusting almost immediately. Even zinc plating deteriorated far faster than expected.

We had to figure it out - the hard way.

We spent months testing, experimenting, and trying different products and systems. Some didn’t work at all. Others worked, but came with limitations. Some had great marketing and strong brand names, but simply didn’t perform in real-world conditions.

What we couldn’t find was anyone focused on helping the small engineer or manufacturer deal with rust problems in a practical, straightforward way.

So we built that capability ourselves.

After developing real, proven solutions through experience, we decided to start Rust Lab - to make it easier for others facing the same problem.
